Laila Ekboir worked as a freelance illustrator for many years in Buenos Aires, Argentina before moving to the UK in 2021 to complete an MA in children's book illustration at the Cambridge School of Art. She works by hand, exploring with all kinds of materials, but her favourite medium is printmaking. She draws inspiration from everyday occurrences, current affairs, her sketchbooks and childhood memories of living in California, Mexico City, and Buenos Aires.

She is currently working on her debut picture book, We Are Like Birds. She’d love to do a funny picture book with distinct, silly characters, artistic sciency non-fiction or a graphic novel for middle grade readers.
